Where are you now?
DeSoto Central High School
Why did you choose math education?
I come from a family of educators, so education has always been a major topic in our house. Serving as a mentor for elementary students all throughout high school opened my eyes to the rewarding opportunities offered through teaching. I was able to help one of my menses go from failing grades to passing the class. Mathematics has always been my best and favorite subject. To excel in math, one must be able to problem solve. I love the challenge of learning new techniques to solve problems.
Why are you passionate about teaching?
Teaching allows you to become part of a student’s life. A teacher has an opportunity to help shape the futures of so many and help students make positive choices to prepare for their next steps in life. I can’t think of a more rewarding profession.
What do you want people to know about you?
Most importantly, I am a Christian and hope to show the love of Christ to others. I enjoy going to all sporting events, hang out with my friends, and spend time with my family.
What activities and organizations are you involved in?
I am a member of Delta Gamma sorority, Shackouls Honor College, Baptist Student Union, ACCESS mentoring program, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society.
What advice would you give to entering freshmen or students finishing up high school?
Soak up every minute because it goes by so fast! It feels like just yesterday that I started my freshan year, and now I'm a junior!!! What??!?!! Freshman year is hard and a big adjustment period. Go out and find your people that will make the transitiion a little easier. Study hard!!
