Why did you choose teaching?
I have known since I was little that I wanted to become an educator because as a child, I enjoyed teaching my younger sisters and playing “school” with them. I have been able to share a personal relationship with many of my teachers, but one teacher in particular inspired me the most. My Career and Technical Education counselor, Grace Knochel, shared a close bond with many of her students and I aspired to do the same as a teacher. I chose English as my concentration because I enjoy discussions about literature. Discovering the meaning behind a character’s words or actions and the symbolism behind weather or colors creates a more in-depth understanding of the text and can help students learn how to infer and critically analyze.
Why are you passionate about teaching?
My favorite part about the teaching profession is establishing personal connections with students and understanding the different learning styles students have.
What made you choose MSU?
I chose Mississippi State because I loved the campus and atmosphere of the school. I admire how important traditions are at MSU.
What do you want people to know about you?
My goal is to not only encourage children in their academic growth but also be a mentor and guide outside of academics. I want to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students to develop a love of learning as I have.
What activities and organizations were you involved in?
I was involved in the Future Educators Association as Social Media Coordinator and member of the Honors College.
