Why did you choose teaching?
I grew up in Hurley, Mississippi. Both my mother and grandmother were Special Education teachers, so they definitely had the most influence on me. I had several math teachers as well who made me want to be involved in education. I chose math because originally I was an engineering major, so I already had a lot of the course credits. I continued with math because I know it is a complicated subject for many, and I wanted to show students that they have the ability to grasp difficult concepts with the right teaching and that math is not as scary as it seems.
Why are you passionate about teaching?
I want to impact a child’s life in a positive way and help them become successful. I want to see that Ah-ha! moment when a student finally understands something because knowing I am helping students is constant motivation.
What made you choose MSU?
I’ve always loved Mississippi State and I had wanted to attend there since I was a little girl. When I was at junior college, I officially decided that I wanted to continue my education at MSU and it was the right choice for me.
